Ready, Set, Respond (RSR) is a medical student-led initiative based out of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. We’re passionate about empowering youth with practical, scenario-based emergency preparedness education.
Through free, interactive sessions led by volunteer presenters, we help high school students gain the awareness and confidence to recognize and respond to common medical emergencies, before professional help arrives.
Whether it’s knowing how to use an EpiPen, respond to a seizure, or recognize the signs of an opioid overdose, RSR equips students with knowledge that can save lives.
Emergencies can happen anywhere, whether at home, in class, on the field, or in public.
Our mission is to empower high school students with foundational knowledge and confidence in first-aid and emergency preparedness. We run interactive, scenario-based sessions on common emergencies to help students act effectively before professional help arrives. As we grow, we’re developing new sessions, expanding our volunteer base, and constantly improving based on student and teacher feedback.
We use hands-on, interactive sessions and relatable scenarios to teach emergency basics in a way that feels approachable and empowering. Students learn the basics of tools like EpiPens and Naloxone, and leave with clear action steps for helping others in need.
We proudly acknowledge Windsor-Essex CPR and First Aid Training for providing our team with supplies that enhance our interactive workshops. Their generosity has helped us deliver more engaging, hands-on emergency preparedness education to students across the region.
Jana is a medical student at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry with a passion for medical education. She founded RSR after realizing a critical gap in how youth are prepared to handle common emergencies. She coordinates the RSR team and partnerships, ensuring each session is engaging and informative.
Motivated by a personal experience, Jana recognized how critical early, informed action can be. Through this initiative, she hopes to empower students with practical, confidence-building knowledge that can make them calm, capable responders in the moments that matter most.
RSR is an educational outreach club. We do NOT provide official CPR or First Aid certifications, nor are we affiliated with any certifying organization. Our focus is on awareness and preparedness. We always tell students: call 9-1-1 in a real emergency and seek professional help.
